Gary and Jeanne Smith Light for Mexico Mission

A work for Christ by Gary and Jeanne Smith

A mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ - the Author of Light - by meeting the physical needs of those who don't yet know Him while telling them the Good News.

"...that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power..." Paul, to Ephesus, chapter 3.

This web site describes for you a mission work made of the support of a number of churches (generally small Missouri churches) as well as individuals who know us -- Gary and Jeanne Smith. We started working down here along the US-Mexico border in 1998 as a result of our conviction that a life lived without helping at least someone is a life wasted, and from our frustration at just "being in Church". God is good, and He has allowed us to become the hands for others in the Church, and especially for those who want to do something but perhaps weren't certain how. We are not the mission; we are just the enabling hands of a much larger mission team that includes many of you reading this now.

This is a mission to help however we can - with food, shelter, water, a doctor, encouragement, prayer, and more - but the primary thrust of the mission is to teach Bible. Though our work is mainly here in Mexico, I also have taught in the Philippines, and later I may have a chance to teach a growing Church in Cambodia. Those other outreaches may be short-term - we will see what God intends. The main thrust now is to teach in Mexico, here along the Texas border. And, if God opens the doors, to teach in the Church in the U.S. through teaching revivals.

The aim of the teaching is the rooting and grounding of the saints of this generation and the next.

What we are NOT may be important to know too. We are not a high profile, big tent evangelistic team. We are not incorporated [sorry, no tax breaks for giving directly to us, though you can give through a church or other mission, of course]. We are not an organization. Light4Mexico is just our website, not a name of a company. We are not another church. Do NOT; please, DO NOT write donation checks to light4mexico - it is just our website, not an incorporated mission organization.

We are interdenominational in the sense that we work with people from New Testament churches of several worship expressions, who, like us, think the primary work of Jesus on Earth is to help those who need help. In the doing of this we take bread to people who otherwise would try to find some in the dump of Matamoros. We make bunk beds. We build houses for people who can't afford rent. We take people to the doctor, buy drinking water, buy groceries, provide blankets in winter, provide shoes, shirts, and caps. We buy fruit for families. We give tennis balls to the kids to play with. We do things to improve the physical life of people who have little. And we do this for a reason.

We do this so we can effectively teach the Bible: to the kids, to the young adults, to the local pastors and Church leaders.

We are two people whom God has blessed to be the reaching hands of other quiet Christians who knew they want to do something, but didn't know how.
